[Convenience Store Adventure] From Party Packs to Desserts for Year-End Home Parties
Unprepared Party Pack Sales 'Absurd'
Purinkle Is Fantastic, Machoking Is Disappointing
Pangdor di Verona Perfect for Home Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] As the year-end approaches, I visited Emart24 upon hearing the news that party packs and traditional Italian desserts, which are a must-buy, were being sold. After making a reservation purchase through their proprietary application (app), I went to pick up the products two days later and encountered a frustrating situation. The bhc Bburinkle Matcho King party pack was supposed to be packed in a dedicated box, but to my surprise, it was handed over in a paper bag. When I asked, they said there were no boxes available at the store, so I reluctantly accepted it. I wondered if it was appropriate to sell products without proper preparation to this extent. When I got home and unpacked the items, there was no chicken discount coupon as advertised. I felt unpleasant, wondering whether the coupon was never prepared along with the box or if it was a store mistake.
The party pack consists of six items: Bburinkle stir-fried noodles, Bburinkle popcorn, Bburinkle pretzel original and spicy, Matcho King stir-fried noodles, and Matcho King chicken drumsticks. This time again, I realized that Bburinkle powder pairs wonderfully with anything. The Bburinkle stir-fried noodles gave off a strong Bburinkle scent when I added the powdered soup and the separate soup packet. It was a deliciously savory stir-fried noodle with a ‘sweet and salty’ flavor, though it felt somewhat dry. The Bburinkle popcorn was attractive due to the harmony between the popcorn and seasoning. The quantity was just right, and the cheese and sweet flavors were diverse. It was a snack worth repurchasing when watching movies or Netflix. The Bburinkle pretzel original had powder generously coated on pretzels and peanuts, giving it a rich flavor. The chunky broken-shaped crackers were the tastiest, with a pleasant chewiness and a savory taste.
The Matcho King stir-fried noodles included dried ingredients such as red chili peppers and green onions along with the noodles. After draining all but about two spoonfuls of hot water, I poured the Matcho King sauce over it. The sauce was a liquid soup with an unusually high viscosity I had never seen before, almost sticky. It was a soy sauce-based stir-fried noodle with strong garlic aroma and sweetness. The problem was that the sweetness was excessive, making the taste quickly cloying. The Matcho King chicken drumsticks were flat-shaped, unlike the plump chicken drumstick snacks I knew before. Therefore, they had a slightly crispier texture and were perfect as a beer snack.
Pandoro di Verona is a festive bread from Italy traditionally shared with family or given as a gift during Christmas. Opening the bell-shaped box revealed a huge bread and powdered sugar wrapped in plastic. The product description was not detailed in Korean, which was confusing, so I had to rely on the image on the packaging. After shaking the bread and powdered sugar inside the plastic bag, it resembled the shape shown. The texture was like mass-produced bread, so those expecting soft bread might be disappointed. Sprinkling powdered sugar made it a sweet bread, and if several people share a slice, it is a unique product worth purchasing at least once.
