Kim Dong-yeon's 'Wondosim Regeneration Project' to Fully Launch in June Next Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will fully launch the regeneration project for underdeveloped old downtown areas starting next year. This is a key pledge of Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon. The province plans to hold a public contest for the 'Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project,' a Gyeonggi-style urban regeneration project, for cities and counties until April 26 next year, and announce the final project sites in June next year.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that it will publicize the 'Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project' contest plan containing these details on the 30th.
This project aims to improve and differentiate the existing urban regeneration projects, which face issues such as lack of community sustainability, insufficient utilization of hub spaces, and uniformity, by freely accepting various urban regeneration project proposals suited to local conditions through in-depth discussions between cities/counties and residents.
In particular, following Governor Kim Dong-yeon's announcement of the 'Comprehensive Measures for Redevelopment of First-generation New Towns in Gyeonggi Province' on August 24, stating that "for balanced redevelopment, we will pay attention not only to the issues of first-generation new towns but also to aging housing including old downtown areas," this project is being promoted as the representative urban regeneration project of the 8th local government administration.
Regarding this, Governor Kim visited old downtown and underdeveloped areas such as Bundang-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam City (August 24), Anyang 4-dong, Manan-gu, Anyang City (September 8 and 27), Jeongok-eup, Yeoncheon County (October 25), and Wongok-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan City (November 29), listening to residents' opinions related to urban regeneration. Meetings with local residents to revitalize urban regeneration will continue next year as well.
The province will promote urban regeneration projects annually within a budget of 20 billion KRW (50% provincial funds, 50% city/county funds) from next year through 2026.
Participation in the project is open to all declining areas within the province. According to the current Urban Regeneration Act, declining areas are defined as places that meet at least two of the following three conditions for three or more consecutive years within the last five years: population decrease, decrease in number of businesses, and having 50% or more buildings over 20 years old.
Cities and counties select declining areas to promote the project, and submit project plans including discovery of project entities such as youth, experts, and companies along with local issues in cooperation with residents. After evaluation, the final selected sites will be announced at the end of June.
