Creating Eco-Friendly Jobs for Seniors and Providing Education for Children to Promote Generational Integration
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 28th at 4 PM, Busan City will hold an opening ceremony and a business agreement ceremony at the Uri Dongne ESG Center located in Geumjeong-gu, together with seven public and private companies participating in the project.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Lee Byung-jin, Deputy Mayor of Busan, Kim Mi-gon, President of the Korea Senior Workforce Development Institute, and about 100 Busan citizens along with other guests from various institutions.
Along with the opening ceremony, a business agreement will be signed with the Korea Senior Workforce Development Institute, Korea Housing Finance Corporation, Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation, Korea South-East Power Co., Busan Urban Corporation, E-Mart, and Lotte Chemical to promote the ‘Uri Dongne ESG Center’ project.
The roles of each institution in the agreement are as follows: ▲Busan City will promote the project and support labor costs ▲Korea Senior Workforce Development Institute will oversee overall project planning and support project expenses (labor costs) ▲Korea Housing Finance Corporation will install vertical gardens and create environmental docent jobs ▲Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation will install upcycled safety handles ▲Korea South-East Power Co. will install LED surface lighting in vulnerable households ▲Busan Urban Corporation will provide free permanent rental stores ▲E-Mart will establish a children's library ▲Lotte Chemical will provide technical support.
The ‘Uri Dongne ESG Center’ is a resource circulation center that collects waste plastic from the local area, upcycles it, and returns it to local residents.
Waste plastics separated and disposed of by local residents are collected, sorted, and washed by participants in the senior job project for upcycling. The upcycled products are circulated through productization and donations.
In particular, the center provides jobs to a total of 390 local seniors through the senior job and social activity support project (hereinafter referred to as the senior job project) for waste plastic upcycling work and environmental education.
ESG means ‘Eco Senior Group’ in the sense that local residents and participating seniors create it together, and it also carries the meaning of public and private sectors fulfilling social responsibility in the recently emphasized ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) management.
The center plans to establish itself as a local carbon-neutral hub by operating not only the upcycling workshop but also spaces such as a children's library and environmental education experience.
