[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] North Korea held a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party to evaluate this year's achievements and decide the direction of national governance for the coming year. Chairman Kim Jong-un described this year as "an unprecedentedly arduous and intense struggle."
Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on the 27th, "The 6th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was convened on December 26, 2022, at the headquarters building of the Party Central Committee."

According to the agency, Chairman Kim said, "Deeply understanding the special nature of the recently formed domestic and international environment and clearly defining the future direction of national development work?this is the precious experience we have gained through the trials and struggles of 2022."
He emphasized, "We must establish a more impassioned and confident strategy of struggle based on the valuable foundation of enduring everything in hardship and achieving practical progress."
At the meeting, five major agenda items were unanimously approved, including a summary of the execution status of key party and state policies for 2022, the business plan for 2023, the execution status of the 2022 state budget, and the 2023 state budget proposal.
The agency explained that Chairman Kim reported on the first agenda item, stating, "The report mentioned that through this year's unprecedentedly arduous and intense struggle, our national power has been strengthened in political, military, economic, and cultural fields, and achievements and progress have been made in realizing the vast tasks presented at the 4th and 5th plenary meetings of the 8th Central Committee of the Party."
It added, "The report also outlined the key goals to be achieved in 2023 and the methods of implementation in various sectors of the people's economy, including key industries such as metal, chemical, electric power, coal, machinery, as well as construction, agriculture, and light industry."
