[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 26th that a test evaluation of major brand TV products revealed significant differences in high-definition video and sound quality among the products.
The tested products included two high-end models from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, as well as four mid-to-low-end models from The Ham, Samsung Electronics, Eastar, and LG Electronics. The high-definition (HDR) video quality test, which evaluates the ability to make bright areas brighter and dark areas darker, showed considerable performance differences between products. The two high-end models from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were rated as "very excellent." Among the mid-to-low-end models, The Ham product was rated "good," while the three products from Samsung Electronics, Eastar, and LG Electronics were rated as "average."
In the standard dynamic range (SDR) video test, the two high-end models from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were rated "very excellent." Among the mid-to-low-end models, The Ham, Samsung Electronics, and Eastar were rated "excellent," while LG Electronics was rated "good." The viewing angle test, which measured changes in brightness and color when viewed from the left and right sides (45 degrees) compared to the front, found that the LG Electronics high-end model had minimal brightness change and was rated relatively "very excellent." Samsung Electronics high-end and mid-to-low-end models, The Ham, and LG Electronics products were rated "excellent," while Eastar was rated "good," indicating performance differences among products.
The test evaluating motion blur and smearing on fast-moving screens showed that the two high-end models from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were relatively "very excellent." Among the mid-to-low-end models, The Ham was rated "excellent," while Samsung Electronics, Eastar, and LG Electronics were rated "good." The sound quality test, which assessed whether original sound was reproduced without distortion, found that the LG Electronics high-end model was relatively "excellent."
Measurements of power consumption during operation and standby were converted into annual power consumption and annual energy costs, revealing differences of up to 1.3 times between products, ranging from 244 kWh (39,000 KRW) to 318 kWh (51,000 KRW). When annual power consumption was converted into annual carbon dioxide emissions, the range was 104 kg to 135 kg, with a maximum difference of 31 kg between products.
