Seo appeared on YTN Radio's "News King Park Ji-hoon" that day and said, "There is no way I would say 'Fighting' to the bereaved families," explaining her statement.
Earlier, Seo was filmed by news cameras shouting "Fighting" at the Itaewon disaster joint memorial altar, which drew criticism that such words were inappropriate in a place of mourning.
In response, she explained, "When I arrived at the site, there were too many banners disparaging the bereaved families. Additionally, a woman came and was loudly criticizing them. While criticizing, she committed an act that should not be done as a human being (criticizing the bereaved families)."
Seo added, "We went there to volunteer and to pay respects at the altar, but that woman also criticized us who came to pay respects. So, I told her not to do that and said 'Let's cheer up' to my group." She explained that the "Fighting" was directed not at the bereaved families but at her own party.

Seo also explained the circumstances surrounding the "Fighting" remark through her social media on the same day, saying, "After paying respects and coming out, a woman called out to me, 'Young-kyo,' and when I approached, she used unmentionable abusive language such as 'malicious XX XXX.' Judging that I could not have a conversation with the woman who kept cursing, I asked my aide on site to record a video," clarifying the context before and after the "Fighting" remark.
