China Firmly Opposes US Defense Authorization Act Supporting Taiwan
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly expressed opposition to the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act, which includes financial support for Taiwan's purchase of American weapons.
On the 24th, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated regarding President Joe Biden's signing of the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act, "We express strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition." The spokesperson also lodged a diplomatic protest, referred to as a "stern negotiation," with the U.S. side.
The spokesperson said, "Regarding Taiwan, the Act seriously violates the 'One China' principle and the provisions of the three major China-U.S. joint communiques (including the establishment of diplomatic relations) and sends the wrong signal to separatist forces pursuing 'Taiwan independence.' It contains many negative provisions that damage peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait."
Furthermore, the spokesperson stated, "Taiwan is part of China, and no external interference in China's internal affairs is allowed. The United States should stop attempting to suppress China by using Taiwan and must cease undermining and distorting the 'One China principle.'"
