[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The People Power Party completed the revision of the party constitution and regulations on the 23rd to hold the party representative election with '100% party members' votes.'
The People Power Party announced that at the Standing National Committee meeting held at 2 p.m. that day, 41 out of 55 members attended the vote on the revision of the party constitution and regulations, and it was passed with 40 votes in favor and 1 against.
Prior to this, in the National Committee vote conducted via Automatic Response System (ARS), 556 out of 790 national committee members participated, with 507 in favor and 49 against, recording a 91.19% approval rate.

This changes the party convention rules for the first time in 18 years since the Hannara Party introduced general public opinion polls in the party representative primary in 2004.
If the top vote-getter does not exceed half of the votes, a runoff vote system is included, where a re-vote is held between the first and second place candidates. Additionally, a reverse selection prevention clause was newly established to exclude supporters of other parties when conducting opinion polls in various intra-party primaries.
This revision process was carried out swiftly in less than a week. The Emergency Response Committee held a meeting on the 19th and approved this revision.
On the day, Emergency Response Committee Chairman Jeong Jin-seok emphasized in his opening remarks at the National Committee, "With this revision, all party members must become protagonists of the era of one million responsible party members," and added, "Power comes from the people, and party leadership comes from party members."
Non-Yoon Faction Party Leadership Candidates Oppose... Yoo Seung-min Absolutely Leading in Opinion Polls but Absolutely Lagging in Party Support
There is a prevailing view that the rule revision favors pro-Yoon faction candidates in the next party convention vote. Because of this, there is strong opposition mainly from non-Yoon faction party leadership candidates. Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, who is expected to be most affected by the passage of the revision as a 'non-Yoon faction' member, shared a video on Facebook with the tag 'Jungkkokma' (an unyielding heart is what matters) and the message, "I will show them a lesson. Never say it's over," leaving open the possibility of running. Lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo pointed out in Daegu the day before, "If there is any movement for an alliance, it is a confession that one cannot win alone."
According to a public opinion poll released by Media Tomato (commissioned by News Tomato, conducted from the 19th to the 21st over three days targeting 1,050 adults aged 18 and over nationwide using wireless ARS), when asked who is suitable as the next People Power Party representative between former lawmaker Yoo and the pro-Yoon unified candidate, 42.5% of respondents answered Yoo was suitable. Those who thought the pro-Yoon unified candidate was suitable accounted for 28.6%, and 28.6% responded that they did not know.
However, when limited to People Power Party supporters, who make up 40.1% of the total respondents, the results were reversed. Only 9.4% said Yoo was suitable, while 64.5% said the pro-Yoon unified candidate was suitable. This means Yoo is leading in public opinion but lagging in party support.
