The Romanian delegation visiting Korea this time consisted of many high-ranking influential figures from politics and business, including Ion-Marcel Ciolacu, Speaker of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, the Prime Minister, Chairpersons of the Joint National Security Standing Committee of the National Assembly, President of the Lu-Han Parliamentary Friendship Association, Ministers of Transport and Infrastructure, Defense, Economy, and Education, the Romanian Ambassador to Korea, and the President of the State Nuclear Power Corporation.
On the 22nd at 2 p.m., the city held a welcoming luncheon for the Romanian delegation invited to Busan at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Haeundae-gu.
Since the visiting high-ranking officials have significant influence on the decision of countries supporting the 2030 World Expo, Mayor Park Hyung-joon personally presided over the welcoming luncheon and conducted negotiation and promotional activities for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid targeting them.
At the luncheon, Mayor Park discussed expanding cooperation between Busan Port, the world's second-largest transshipment port, and Constan?a, Romania's largest port city, as well as the entry of Busan-based companies into Romania. He also discussed exchange and cooperation measures between Busan City and Romania, conveyed Busan's strong determination to bid for the 2030 World Expo, and requested their support for the bid.
After the welcoming luncheon, the Romanian delegation toured the downtown area of Busan, the candidate city for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo, experiencing firsthand the passionate desire of Busan City and its citizens to host the Expo, as well as the charm and capabilities of the city of Busan.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “Through this visit, we vividly conveyed to the Romanian delegation the charm and capabilities of Busan, Republic of Korea, as a candidate city for the 2030 World Expo, as well as the enthusiastic desire of Busan citizens to host the event. Mayor Park is fully committed to securing support in Europe, including an 8-night, 10-day European tour from November 28 to December 7 for negotiation activities related to the 2030 Busan World Expo bid. Additionally, on December 1, Busan signed a friendship and cooperation agreement with Sofia, Bulgaria, becoming the first European city to establish such a partnership, and is also making every effort to expand its global network with European cities.
