The Masan Fire Station in Gyeongnam urged special caution against traffic accidents caused by black ice on roads during winter cold waves, snow, and rain.
Black ice is a road freezing phenomenon where the road surface freezes like a thin layer of ice after snow or rain when the temperature suddenly drops. A transparent thin ice layer covers the black asphalt, making it difficult to detect with the naked eye.
It is especially dangerous around bridges, tunnels, and shaded roads, and on highways, the risk of large-scale traffic accidents is high, so extra caution is required.
Preventive measures against black ice accidents include ▲checking tire wear and engine condition ▲maintaining a safe distance and driving slowly ▲avoiding sudden starts, rapid acceleration, sudden braking, and sharp turns ▲steering in the direction of the skid if slipping occurs ▲applying brakes multiple times rather than all at once.
