Gyeonggi Northern Autonomous Police Committee Strengthens Public Safety Policies Closely Connected with Residents
Secured 13.5 Billion Won for Autonomous Police Budget and 500 Million Won in Special Grants
Support for Stalking Victim Protection and Emergency Admission of Mental Illness Patients on Site
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 21st that it has secured 13.5 billion KRW in autonomous police budget for next year and 500 million KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to strengthen public safety services for residents.
Through a special grant project competition, the Autonomous Police Committee will promote projects such as ▲ establishing Safety Zones in neighborhoods ▲ installing intelligent closed-circuit television (CCTV) for stalking victims ▲ building an emergency admission support center for people with mental illnesses.
The Safety Zone establishment project involves improving spatial characteristics and environments by installing crime prevention LED signboards, emergency bells, safety lights, and safety mirrors in areas with high crime risk in Goyang-si, Namyangju-si, Guri-si, and Uijeongbu-si.
The intelligent CCTV installation project for stalking victims enables real-time video monitoring linked to smartphones, detection and notification of loiterers, and automatic recording storage at the entrance of the victim’s residence when protection and support are needed for stalking victims reported to 112.
The emergency admission support center project for people with mental illnesses aims to assist in rapid on-site response to high-risk mental patients, protecting both the patients and those around them, and addressing gaps in public safety.
A center will be established within the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency to verify and connect to hospitals capable of admission when police officers dispatched to the scene via 112 reports judge that emergency admission is urgently needed for a mental patient.
