Democratic Party Finally 'Allows' Park Ji-won's Reinstatement... 'Lee Jae-myung's Decision Despite Jeong Cheong-rae's Opposition'
[Asia Economy reporters Naju-seok and Park Joon-yi] Former National Intelligence Service Director Park Ji-won is rejoining the Democratic Party of Korea. The Democratic Party’s Supreme Council has ultimately decided to ‘allow’ Park’s reinstatement.
On the 19th, Park Sung-jun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly and said, "The topic discussed in the closed Supreme Council meeting was the reinstatement of former Director Park," adding, "Today, from a magnanimous and grand unification perspective, the party leader proposed accepting former Director Park’s reinstatement, and the Supreme Council agreed, thus allowing his return to the party."
Spokesperson Park stated, "This was the fifth time the Supreme Council has discussed reinstatement, with intense debates for and against." Previously, discussions about Park’s reinstatement had taken place in the Supreme Council, but his past resignation during the Democratic Party’s split was an issue. Jeong Cheong-rae, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, said, "I think the reinstatement of Representative Min Hyung-bae should come before former Director Park’s," and added, "Although I was opposed before, I will respect the party’s decision with a true motherly heart."
Regarding the reason for allowing Park’s reinstatement, spokesperson Park explained, "From the presidential election through the grand unification perspective, the Democratic Party decided as a unified front to welcome those who had left the party, and the party leader decided to move forward together with former Director Park."
