Pohang City held a workshop at Ecopro Pohang 3 Campus to explore mid- to long-term development plans such as establishing a partnership with the secondary battery anchor company Ecopro, attracting new investments, and enhancing the status as a leading battery city.

The workshop was attended by key officials from major institutions of the ‘Gyeongbuk Secondary Battery Industry-Academia-Research-Government Innovation Governance,’ including Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang City, and EcoPro. The program included ▲a factory tour of the secondary battery value chain ▲a meeting between participating companies and government officials.
During the event, the attending officials emphasized the importance of ‘solidarity and cooperation among industry, academia, research, and government’ as the key to successfully designating the national advanced strategic industry ‘Secondary Battery Specialized Complex,’ while enhancing understanding of secondary battery production, reviewing the mid- to long-term roadmap for commercialization of the local secondary battery industry, and discussing planning and commercialization of industry-government linked projects.
The ‘Secondary Battery Innovation Governance,’ which includes Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, EcoPro, POSTECH, and 30 companies, research institutes, universities, and local governments in the Gyeongbuk region, is a policy council composed of experts with abundant knowledge and experience in each field to proactively respond to the secondary battery industry innovation strategy. It plays a leading role as a hub that consolidates regional capabilities to build an industrial cooperation system and revitalize the secondary battery industry, spearheading efforts to attract the Secondary Battery Specialized Complex.
Pohang City, together with Gyeongbuk Province, is making every effort to be designated as a Secondary Battery Specialized Complex, which receives national policy support by consolidating local industry-academia-research-government innovation capabilities, and is striving to leap forward as a global leading battery city.
