Suncheon Cultural Heritage Night Tour Enters Cultural Heritage Administration's 'Hall of Fame'
Highly Praised Every Year for Diverse Programs and Unique Features
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 15th that the ‘Suncheon Cultural Heritage Night Tour’ has been selected for the third consecutive year as an excellent project in the Cultural Heritage Administration’s Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Project, and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
The Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Project is a program annually sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration to rediscover the value and meaning of cultural heritage dormant in the region and to develop new cultural content based on it.
At the awards ceremony for the ‘2022 Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Excellent Project’ held on the 14th, the city received the Grand Prize (Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner’s Award) in the Cultural Heritage Night Tour category.
Suncheon, selected as an excellent project for three consecutive years since 2020, has been inducted into the Cultural Heritage Administration’s Hall of Fame.
Suncheon is the only local government registered in the Hall of Fame in the Cultural Heritage Night Tour category.
The Suncheon Cultural Heritage Night Tour has been highly praised every year for its diverse programs and distinctive composition.
Experts responsible for evaluating the night tour also commented, “Among more than 50 local governments nationwide holding cultural heritage night tours, Suncheon is the place that best embodies the purpose of the event on site.”
In particular, this year’s Suncheon Cultural Heritage Night Tour operated unique experiential programs actively utilizing local cultural heritage such as making jangmyeongseok lanterns and cloisonn? enamel crafts on the Pujonamu tree, which received great responses from family visitors, and attempted urban camping at the site of the old Suncheonbu fortress, attracting visitors’ popularity.
Also, at the second event held in December, programs suitable for winter such as roasted chestnut experience were offered, exploring the possibility of success as a winter event, while adding diversity to the event by holding a talk show on local history with a famous Korean history lecturer.
The Suncheon Cultural Heritage Night Tour has established itself as a representative festival of Suncheon, winning the SNS category at the 16th Pinnacle Awards hosted by the Korean branch of the International Festivals & Events Association, a private organization, last October.
Meanwhile, Suncheon City was selected in September for the ‘2023 World Heritage Festival Contest Project’ hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration, securing a project budget of 2 billion KRW. The city plans to promote projects to enhance Suncheon’s brand in World Heritage through traditional mountain temple cultural heritage utilization, vivid cultural heritage utilization projects, ICT immersive content construction projects, and operation of religious cultural travel healing programs.
