Gokseong 'Seomjingang Train Village' Selected as One of Korea's Top 100 Tourist Attractions
Selected 5 Times in Korea's Top 100 Tourist Attractions: 'Representative Tourist Destinations of Korea'
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Jeollanam-do Gokseong-gun (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village has been selected as one of the ‘Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions’ representing South Korea.
The ‘Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions’ is a project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization to promote major tourist spots domestically and internationally to revitalize tourism in Korea. Every two years, 100 representative tourist destinations that both domestic and foreign visitors must visit are selected.
Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected five times since the ‘Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions’ began in 2013, establishing itself as a representative tourist destination in South Korea.
Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village is a train theme park created by utilizing the old Gokseong Station, a registered cultural heritage site, and some sections of the old line that were closed due to the double-tracking of the Jeolla Line in 1998.
It is a complex cultural space full of attractions such as the Dreamland amusement facility, Yosulland themed around goblins, steam locomotives, and rail bike experiences. The rose garden, which has doubled in size, blooms with tens of millions of roses of 1004 varieties in May. The garden adds a fragrant visual appeal by incorporating stories based on the historical background of the origin of roses.
Seomjingang Train Village is undergoing changes different from before. The first phase of the advancement project will be completed by June next year. A water playground to cool off the heat will open, and the animal farm, where children can interact with cute rabbits, is also scheduled for renewal.
That’s not all. Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village is busy every week with monthly events and activities. In celebration of the Christmas season, programs such as Christmas tree and wreath making experiences are being operated. Additionally, a winter playground, which was a huge hit last year with snow sledding, is also being prepared.
A Gokseong-gun official said, “Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village has been selected five times for the Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions, gaining recognition as a representative tourist destination in South Korea. We will continue to repay the tourists who love Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village with diverse events.”
