Protect the Earth! ... Air Busan Reduces 30,000 Tons of Carbon Annually with Next-Generation Aircraft Operations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Air Busan announced that the introduction of next-generation aircraft A321neo has resulted in an annual reduction of approximately 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Air Busan introduced the next-generation new aircraft A321neo in March 2020 to improve fuel efficiency and promote eco-friendly operations.
This aircraft improves fuel efficiency by about 15% compared to the existing first-generation A321 aircraft, resulting not only in fuel savings but also in an annual reduction of 5,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, decreased nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, and reduced engine noise.
An Air Busan official stated, “Air Busan currently operates a total of six A321neo aircraft, achieving an annual carbon emission reduction effect of approximately 30,000 tons, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon absorbed by 3 million 30-year-old trees in one year.”
Air Busan plans to replace two first-generation A321 aircraft currently in operation with A321neo aircraft next year.
In addition to carbon reduction through the introduction of next-generation aircraft, Air Busan is pursuing sustainable growth by raising passengers’ environmental awareness through various eco-friendly activities.
This year, the airline is taking the lead in practicing carbon neutrality through resource circulation. Collaborating with upcycling specialized companies, discarded aircraft seat covers and crew bags are being transformed into various recycled products such as clothing, slippers, keyrings, and travel pouches, which are produced and sold.
On the 24th of last month, a flight departing from Incheon and arriving in Bangkok was planned as an “Eco Flight” with the theme of environmental friendliness, implementing procedures throughout the entire flight process to minimize environmental pollution.
Additionally, Air Busan contributes to the preservation of the local ecosystem by participating in environmental cleanup activities at major tourist sites in Busan and volunteering to remove invasive plant species near the Nakdong River estuary.
