In response to frequent localized heavy snowfall due to recent abnormal weather, the district is making every effort to implement snow removal measures to minimize traffic inconvenience and especially the occurrence of safety accidents.
During this on-site inspection, the snow removal forward base was visited to check the stock status of about 1,160 tons of snow removal agents such as calcium chloride and the readiness of snow removal equipment. They also thoroughly inspected the operation status of automatic snow removal facilities such as the smart road heating system and remote automatic brine spraying devices.
This year, the district installed road heating systems capable of initial response during snowfall on eight sections totaling 2,690 meters, including Bongcheon-ro 21-gil, and additional brine spraying devices on a 1,460-meter section around Nangok-ro, operating automatic snow removal facility systems at a total of 53 locations.
In addition, along with the snow removal equipment owned, snow removal vehicles are additionally operated through private contractors to support snow removal work on side roads, improving the snow removal operation system to minimize inconvenience to residents through prompt snow removal work.
Furthermore, Gwanak-gu emphasizes voluntary snow removal participation by residents by actively promoting “Resident Action Guidelines” with the basic direction of “Snow Removal Together with Residents,” recognizing the limits of administrative power alone in winter snow removal work. About 2,900 personnel, including volunteers and private snow removal task forces, cooperate with civil, military, and police forces to strengthen snow removal measures.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Above all, we prioritize the safety and convenience of our residents and will establish a prompt and thorough preparedness system,” adding, “For a safe Gwanak for everyone, we ask residents to actively cooperate in snow removal in front of their homes and stores during heavy snowfall.”
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) has completed a full survey of road facilities in the area and is promoting a comprehensive maintenance campaign to ensure the safe walking rights of vulnerable pedestrians.
The walking rights of vulnerable groups such as the disabled are important rights that must be guaranteed for daily life and social participation, directly related to safety.
Accordingly, in November, the district investigated inconveniences on sidewalks and roads from the perspective of residents using assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers.
As a result, many places were found where safety facilities for the disabled did not meet installation standards or where old tactile blocks and high crosswalk curbs made it difficult for disabled people to pass.
Starting next year, the district will prioritize maintenance of 62 sidewalks around subway stations and bus stops frequently used by visually impaired people among a total of 274 maintenance sites.
They will carry out work to secure walking routes by repairing old and damaged areas and aligning the direction of crosswalks with tactile blocks.
Additionally, they plan to sequentially lower partial curbs and remove level differences to eliminate all curb edges and height differences between sidewalks and roads at crosswalks.
Moreover, the district announced plans to systematically manage and maintain road facilities.
