Kim Dae-gi Visits UAE as Yoon's Special Envoy... Discusses Bilateral Cooperation on Nuclear Power and Defense Industry
Presidential Office "Strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership between Korea and UAE"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Kim Dae-gi, Chief of Staff to the President, began his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 11th as a special envoy of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
The Presidential Office announced to the press corps on the same day, "Chief of Staff Kim will officially visit the UAE from today until the 14th." The spokesperson's office stated, "Special Envoy Kim plans to discuss cooperation measures between the two countries to strengthen the 'special strategic partnership' between Korea and the UAE through meetings with key UAE officials."
This is the first time Chief of Staff Kim has traveled abroad as a special envoy of the President. When UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away in May, President Yoon sent Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party who served as Chief of Staff to the President-elect, as a special envoy and head of the condolence delegation.
During this visit to the UAE, Chief of Staff Kim is expected to meet with the new President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discuss concrete plans to enhance bilateral cooperation related to nuclear power generation and the defense industry.
Earlier, on September 1, President Yoon met with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, who visited Korea as a special envoy of President Mohammed. Special Envoy Khaldoon told President Yoon, "The Barakah nuclear power project, which Korea won the contract for in 2009, has become a symbol of cooperation between the two countries," and added, "Based on the trust built over the years, we hope to create a new strategic relationship looking ahead for decades to come."
