Two Youth Shelters (Temporary and Mobile Youth Shelters) Selected as Top Institutions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City was selected as the top institution for both the ‘Temporary Youth Shelter’ and the ‘Mobile Youth Shelter’ in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s ‘2022 Comprehensive Evaluation of Youth Shelters.’
Youth shelters are youth welfare facilities that provide protection for a certain period and support counseling, academics, and independence to help youth facing crises such as running away return stably to their families, schools, and society. Currently, 138 such shelters operate nationwide.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s comprehensive evaluation of youth shelters is conducted every three years, and this year it was carried out targeting 129 youth shelters nationwide that have been operating for more than two years.
The evaluation covers six major areas: ▲organization operation and finance (15 points) ▲human resource management and employee welfare (15 points) ▲facility environment and safety management (15 points) ▲youth utilization rate and rights protection (15 points) ▲program and service efficiency (30 points) ▲activation of community linkage (10 points).
As a result of the evaluation, all five youth shelters in Busan received a very excellent (S) grade, and among them, the ‘Temporary Youth Shelter’ and the ‘Mobile Youth Shelter’ were selected as two of the top eight S-grade shelters, receiving the Minister’s Commendation as top institutions, Onnuri gift certificates worth 300,000 KRW each, and plaques recognizing them as top institutions.
An Kyung-eun, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of the city, said, “This award is the result of Busan City’s efforts to lead youth protection,” and added, “We will continue to do our best for the healthy growth and independence of youth, who are the future generation.”
