"Strengthening Resource Circulation" Jeju Samdasoo Produces 'Eco-Friendly Workwear' Made from PET Bottles
Contributing to Resource Circulation by Utilizing Over 32,000 PET Bottles Collected from Jeju Island
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Approximately 32,000 PET bottles collected in Jeju have been reborn as eco-friendly uniforms for the employees who produce Jeju Samdasoo.
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation announced on the 5th that it has provided eco-friendly uniforms made from transparent PET bottles collected in Jeju to about 460 employees belonging to the Samdasoo Production Headquarters.
The eco-friendly uniforms were produced as part of Jeju's circular economy project, "Rebirth through Recycling." The corporation collected waste PET bottles in Jeju, and Hyosung TNC manufactured the eco-friendly fiber "Regen Jeju." The uniform production was entrusted to Songgwang Happiness Town, a production facility for people with severe disabilities in Jeju, adding significance by creating jobs and economic independence for people with severe disabilities. The new uniforms received positive evaluations as they were made by actively reflecting the opinions of workers based on a preference survey.

Kim Jeong-hak, president of Jeju Development Corporation, said, "The introduction of eco-friendly uniforms demonstrates our commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management as part of resource circulation, which is one of the core strategies of the 'Green Whole Process' to reduce plastic usage by 50% by 2030." He added, "We will contribute to solving plastic issues through the development of eco-friendly packaging, lightweighting, and resource circulation activities."
