Since 1999, Samsung has continuously donated year-end neighbor love funds to the Community Chest of Korea for 24 years to help vulnerable groups. The total cumulative amount donated to date reaches 770 billion KRW.
From 1999 to 2003, Samsung donated 10 billion KRW annually, from 2004 to 2010, 20 billion KRW annually, 30 billion KRW in 2011, and from 2012 onwards, 50 billion KRW each year.
This year’s year-end neighbor love fund included participation from 23 affiliates such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, Cheil Worldwide, and S-1. Each company went through approval procedures for external donation contributions.
Also, following last year, in addition to company funds, tens of thousands of employees from the 23 affiliates voluntarily raised donations included in the fund. The funds donated by Samsung will be used for ▲supporting youth education ▲supporting socially vulnerable groups.
President Choi Young-moo said, "I hope Samsung’s year-end neighbor love fund brings hope and courage to the underprivileged in our society," and added, "Samsung will continue to strive to contribute to our society together with its employees."
Samsung plans to purchase 320,000 copies of the 2023 desk calendar produced in collaboration with eight NGOs including UNICEF, JA Korea, Save the Children, Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, and Blue Tree Foundation, and distribute them to employees. The calendar contains photos and information introducing the main CSR activities and projects of the NGOs and Samsung.
