Gwangju Seo-gu Selected as 'Best Autonomous District' in Carbon Point Program Evaluation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) announced on the 30th that it was selected as the best autonomous district in the ‘Carbon Point System Operation Evaluation’ hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City, securing 30 million KRW for greenhouse gas reduction projects.

Seo-gu received high evaluations in all indicators, including the achievement rate of target households, achievement rate of target complexes, updating of participants' personal information, promotion and education performance, and the amount of greenhouse gas reduction.

In particular, this year, the district office’s administrative welfare centers and Green Leader Council members encouraged the subscription to the Carbon Point System targeting apartment complexes and small business owners and promoted a campaign to reduce greenhouse gases. Compared to last year, more than 600 households newly subscribed to the Carbon Point System, which was effective.

Currently, a total of 75,400 households in Seo-gu are subscribed to the Carbon Point System, contributing to the practice of carbon neutrality.

A Seo-gu official said, “This award is thanks to the residents who showed interest in energy saving and actively cooperated in practicing low-carbon green living,” adding, “Since practice is most important to realize the 2045 Carbon Neutral City, we ask for citizens’ great interest and participation in the Carbon Point System.”

Participation in the Carbon Point System can be applied online through the Carbon Point System website or by visiting or mailing (faxing) the Seo-gu Office Climate Environment Division or administrative welfare centers.

Meanwhile, Seo-gu plans to promote the ‘Carbon Bank Excellent Apartment High-Efficiency Lighting Equipment Replacement Project’ early next year using the 30 million KRW project fund received.
