Korean Air "Experience 180-Degree Seats Even on Small Aircraft"
Introduction of the 'Airbus A321neo' with Enhanced Convenience and Features
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Korean Air announced on the 30th that it will introduce the Airbus A321neo equipped with fully flat 180-degree business class seats on a small aircraft for the first time among domestic airlines, and will begin operations starting in December.
The A321neo introduced by Korean Air is a 182-seat narrow-body (single-aisle) small aircraft mainly deployed on short-haul routes such as Southeast Asia, China, and Japan.
Korean Air's A321neo is configured with a total of 182 seats, including 8 Prestige seats and 174 Economy seats. The Prestige seats on the A321neo are the first among Korean Air's narrow-body small passenger aircraft to feature eight fully flat 180-degree lie-flat seats arranged diagonally to maximize space, providing passengers with the utmost comfort.
These seats are equipped with 44cm custom Audio Video On Demand (AVOD) monitors, and to maximize comfort, a wireless charging device has been added to the armrest area of the seat where an electric icon is displayed, allowing passengers to simply place their phones to charge wirelessly.
Economy seats feature personal monitors enlarged to 33cm, 10cm bigger than before, enabling passengers to enjoy the in-flight entertainment system. Adjustable headrests in various directions and individual coat hangers installed on each seat minimize fatigue even on short trips.
The Prestige seats of Korean Air's A321neo utilize patterns inspired by traditional Korean patchwork, Jogakbo. Additionally, the use of dark gray and gold colors enhances the luxurious atmosphere. In Economy class, vivid woven patterns create a distinctive feel. Furthermore, Korean Air's A321neo is the first in the Asian region to apply Airbus's cabin interior brand ‘Airspace’. The overhead bins for carry-on luggage have been expanded by 40% compared to the previous A321neo interior, providing more spacious storage for baggage.
Korean Air offers in-flight Wi-Fi on the A321neo. To this end, Korean Air has installed satellite data reception equipment capable of providing in-flight Wi-Fi service on this aircraft. Starting from the first half of next year, all passengers on the A321neo will be able to use in-flight Wi-Fi after paying the usage fee. Korean Air plans to expand in-flight Wi-Fi services primarily to newly introduced aircraft such as the Boeing 737-8, starting with the A321neo.
Korean Air's introduction of the A321neo is not only aimed at enhancing customer service competitiveness on short-haul routes but also part of a large-scale investment in new aircraft for safety. Korean Air plans to increase its fleet of A321neos to 30 by 2027.
Including this, Korean Air will introduce a total of 90 new aircraft by 2028, including 10 Boeing 787-9s, 20 Boeing 787-10s, and 30 Boeing 737-8s, while gradually retiring aging aircraft such as six A330s and six Boeing 777-200ERs currently planned, actively modernizing its fleet.
