Jeon Nam-do Councilor Choi Seon-guk Proposes 'Priority Purchase of Local Timber' Bill
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 29th that the "Jeonnam Province Sustainable Use of Wood Promotion Ordinance," which was proposed by Representative Choi Seon-guk (The Democratic Party of Korea·Mokpo 1), recently passed the review of the Health, Welfare, and Environment Committee.
This ordinance follows last month's proposal of the "Jeonnam Province Sustainable Management and Administration of Provincial Forests Ordinance" and includes necessary provisions for promoting the use of local wood, revitalizing wooden architecture, fostering wood culture, and prioritizing the purchase of local wood.
The ordinance allows Jeonnam Province to promote ▲distribution, sales, use, and processing of local wood ▲establishment of a wood industry foundation ▲provision of information and consulting on wood products ▲training of professionals to activate the use of local wood.
It also enables the promotion of wooden architecture in public buildings and the use of local wood, as well as the advancement of wood culture through events such as wood experience programs and woodworking competitions.
In particular, the ordinance stipulates that when Jeonnam Province purchases wood or wood products, it shall prioritize products made from local thinning wood or local wood, and encourage public institutions to prioritize the use of local wood.
