The Eagle Festival is held every year around mid-November to welcome and protect the eagles that fly from Mongolia to Goseong to spend the winter.
Hosted and organized by the Korea Bird Association Gyeongnam Goseong Branch, the festival has been held since 2020 and is now in its third year.
Before the festival, on December 2, the Korea-Mongolia Eagle International Symposium will be held at the Goseong Museum to reflect on the significance of the Goseong Eagle Ecology Festival.
At the symposium, efforts will be made to widely promote eagle protection activities in Goseong and discuss policy establishment and concrete implementation plans for eagle conservation management.
Following this, a cooperative system will be established between Goseong-gun, Mongolian University, and Pusan National University to protect eagles.
The main festival day, December 3, will begin with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by various experiences and eagle feeding observation. The exhibition hall will feature stuffed wolves, red foxes, and wildcats native to Mongolia, as well as photo exhibitions of Mongolian landscapes and eagles.
During the festival, various activities such as ▲ flying eagle airplanes ▲ making Je Jeong-gu plank house piggy banks ▲ making eagle beak masks ▲ making bird keychains by Ma Dong-ho ▲ long jump grasshopper games ▲ making eagle eco-bags are planned, allowing people of all ages to enjoy ecological tourism happily.
Additionally, free tasting of eagle bread will be available, making the festival a well-balanced event with sights, activities, and food.
Especially this year, a falconry demonstration, Korea’s traditional hunting method and a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is scheduled to take place.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “Through this winter’s Goseong Eagle Ecology Festival, I hope families will enjoy various experiences as well as ecological education and create many meaningful memories.”
