CJ Logistics Presents Appreciation Plaque to Delivery Worker Who Prevented Fire
Mr. Shim Seung-bo, a CJ Logistics delivery driver, is posing for a commemorative photo holding a certificate of commendation received from the fire station.
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] CJ Logistics announced on the 29th that it awarded a letter of appreciation to delivery worker Sim Seung-bo for quickly reporting during a delivery task and preventing a major fire.
According to the company, Sim, who works in Wonju, Gangwon Province, noticed an unusual smell while making deliveries at a commercial-residential building earlier this month. As he continued delivering, he sensed the smell intensifying and immediately called the building owner who lived in the same building.
He said he contacted the owner as a courtesy because it seemed like there was a strong burning smell in the building and mentioned that someone might have burnt food. The 119 emergency responders who arrived after the report found a frying pan and food burning on a gas stove in an empty house. If the report had been delayed, a major accident or casualties could have occurred.
The Wonju Fire Station praised Sim for his prompt initial response that prevented the fire and awarded him a commendation. The CJ Logistics Delivery Win-Win Committee, a consultative body of delivery industry workers, also recognized his contribution to social safety and presented him with a prize.
Sim said, "Before starting delivery work, I worked as a ski resort safety officer for 14 years, handling facility management and lifesaving tasks, so I was able to quickly judge the danger." He added, "Perhaps because I have worked in safety-related jobs for a long time, I reacted more sensitively to the smell," reflecting on the incident.
