View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it has established an 'AR Bus Stop' using Mobility AR (Augmented Reality) services at bus stops in Sejong Special Self-Governing City.
Mobility AR is a service that installs transparent OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays on mobility infrastructure such as bus and BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) stops and smart shelters, providing AR content customized by location, situation, and user. Using transparent OLED displays, it offers convenient transportation, municipal administration, and surrounding area information that is helpful to citizens.
In particular, by utilizing the 40% transmittance advantage of transparent OLED, users can simultaneously see the real background outside the window and digital information. This maintains a sense of openness in the space while providing citizens with a unique content experience. Additionally, it links location information with public data to inform citizens about safety and emergency situations.
Since last year, LG Uplus has been integrating 5G, ultra-precise positioning (RTK), and AR technologies into smart mobility to demonstrate citizen-experience services nationwide. As part of this, since June this year, LG Uplus, together with the Anyactive Consortium (Innodep and Deeping Source), has been carrying out the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Smart City Pilot City Innovation Service Model Verification and Expansion Project,' establishing a '5G-based transparent OLED display' at BRT stops in Sejong Special Self-Governing City, aiming to provide Mobility AR services by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, to advance the Mobility AR service, LG Uplus is conducting a 'Smart City Innovation Technology AR Content Contest' targeting university students and startups, gathering citizens' ideas and capabilities to carry out demonstration projects. Alongside this, the Mobility AR service has been introduced at the Jeonnam ICT New Technology Exhibition and the digital cultural event in Cheonan City, Chungnam.
