[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The prosecution has determined that there is no evidence to support the allegations against Democratic Party lawmaker No Woong-rae, who was accused of distributing business cards during the local elections.
On the 25th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Byung-joo) announced that regarding No's alleged violation of the Public Official Election Act, "it was judged that the charges were not substantiated, and the (non-prosecution report) records were returned to the police." This is the same conclusion reached recently by the police, who decided not to prosecute No.
According to the prosecution, No is accused of distributing business cards during the June 1 local elections. Under the current Public Official Election Act, a preliminary candidate, their spouse, or if no spouse exists, one designated person, direct ascendants or descendants, and accompanying office managers or activity assistants are allowed to distribute business cards. Distribution in unspecified locations in a non-face-to-face manner is prohibited.
Earlier, the Mapo District Election Commission discovered that No's business cards were distributed on the roadside within the jurisdiction during the election and reported the investigation materials to the Mapo Police Station.
