A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "Ssireum is a traditional national sport designated as National Intangible Cultural Property No. 131 in 2017 and was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2018. However, since the early 2000s, it has experienced a downturn due to the absence of major stars and the decline of technical Ssireum. We will develop measures to discover the value of Ssireum and enhance its dignity."
