According to the Korea Forest Service on the 25th, the Forest of Memory was established on 29 hectares of national forest land in Gaehwa-ri, Seongju-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungnam.
About 5,000 memorial trees have been planted in the Forest of Memory, which is equipped with a visitor center, communal ceremonial hall, and various convenience facilities.
The Forest of Memory is the second national arboretum for tree burials to open nationwide, 13 years after the Sky Forest Memorial Park in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, opened in May 2009.
Arboretums for tree burials preserve the forest in its original form and do not use artificial objects such as tombstones, making them a nature-friendly burial method that causes less forest damage and allows efficient use of land, unlike conventional cemeteries.
Tree burial is a method of interring cremated bone ashes under or around trees.
