Gyeonggi-do Claims Throne at 'Korea Craft Competition' for Second Consecutive Year
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi-do received the Grand Prize in the group category at the Korea Craft Competition.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 25th that it was honored with the Grand Prize in the group category at the '52nd Korea Craft Competition' held on the 24th at the Changwon Convention Center in Gyeongnam.
The Korea Craft Competition is an event hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration and organized by the Korea Craft Cooperative Federation, aimed at the development of folk craft techniques and the promotion of the craft industry.
Gyeonggi-do submitted 48 works that passed the province’s preliminary selection with special prizes or higher, including the ceramic craft "Black Soil Facing Tea Set" by artist In Hyun-sik (Icheon City), which won the Prime Minister’s Award. In total, 33 works won awards, including one Cultural Heritage Administration Award and five Encouragement Awards.
In particular, Gyeonggi-do won the 'Grand Prize in the Group Category,' awarded to the local government with the highest total score of selected works, for the second consecutive year following last year.
Outstanding works in this competition receive various benefits, such as support from promotional and sales channel support projects conducted by various public institutions. Especially, works awarded the Head of Institution Award or higher can use the certification mark of 'Korea Craft Masterpiece.'
No Tae-jong, Director of the Specialized Enterprise Support Division of Gyeonggi-do, said, "This competition has once again proven that Gyeonggi-do’s crafts are the best in the nation," and added, "We will strive to develop Gyeonggi-do’s folk craft industry, including expanding support budgets."
