Suncheon City Visits Izumi City, Japan to Commemorate 10th Anniversary of Sister City Partnership
Deputy Mayor Son Jeom-sik: "We Will Spare No Effort for Continuous Exchange"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 23rd that a delegation led by Vice Mayor Son Jeom-sik visited Izumi City, Japan, on the 19th.
According to the city, Vice Mayor Son Jeom-sik and his delegation attended the 'Izumi City Grand Industrial Festival,' Izumi City's representative festival selling local specialties, and then toured the Crane Observation Center and museum, which became the basis for exchanges between the two cities.
This visit was a reciprocal visit following the visit of Izumi Vice Mayor Yoshida Sadao and his delegation in October, with the two city delegations meeting again after about a month.
At a dinner with Izumi Mayor Shiinoki, Vice Mayor Son said, "We will spare no effort at the city level for continuous exchanges in the future." He added, "Especially next year, it would be great if Izumi City could participate and brighten the 2023 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo, held in Suncheon for the first time in 10 years."
In response, Izumi Mayor Shiinoki Shinichi said, "At the end of last year, Izumi City was selected as Japan's first Ramsar Convention Wetland City thanks to much help from Suncheon City." He added, "We cherish the connection through the cranes and will actively continue exchanges."
Meanwhile, Suncheon City and Izumi City signed a sister city agreement in 2012 based on the conservation of the hooded crane and have been continuously cooperating in cultural and tourism fields such as the 2023 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo and youth exchanges.
