Gwangju Seo-gu Holds Workshop to Share Best Practices in Health and Welfare Services

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) announced on the 23rd that it held the 2022 second half ‘Visiting Health and Welfare Service Best Practices Sharing Workshop and Incentive Ceremony’ on the 21st to enhance the capacity for proactive administration and to resolve welfare blind spots.

Since 2021, Seo-gu has been selecting excellent cases every year and holding sharing workshops to discover and share best practices that provide customized welfare services to residents, aiming to improve the professionalism of welfare officials.

In the second half of this year, among a total of 15 diverse best practices, six top cases from neighborhoods (Nongsong 1·2-dong, Yudeok-dong, Chipyeong-dong, Geumho 1·2-dong) and nine excellent cases were selected and shared at the workshop.

In particular, support was provided to a subject who had been hospitalized long-term due to alcohol syndrome and discharged in July but was struggling to maintain basic living due to unpaid monthly rent, bank account seizure, and lack of living expenses, including public jeonse rental contracts, seizure-prevention bank account openings, and daily necessities.

Also, the top case from Geumho 2-dong, which established a bridge of communication with a family that had been out of contact, attracted attention.

Additionally, all 15 best practices introduced as exemplary cases of proactive administration included Yudeok-dong’s support case for a pregnant woman with intellectual disability, Nongsong 1-dong’s support for alcoholics’ participation in community activities, Nongsong 2-dong’s support for single-person households dependent on alcohol, Chipyeong-dong’s support for elderly living alone with diabetic complications, and Geumho 1-dong’s support for reclusive elderly living alone.

Seo-gu plans to boost employee morale by providing incentives to the neighborhoods selected for best practices.

A Seo-gu official said, “We will actively discover excellent cases that have devised various support measures for residents in welfare blind spots or facing difficulties due to multiple complex reasons and strive to realize Seo-gu as the number one welfare city.”
