This winter, multiple affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, plan to conduct their own blood donation campaigns to promote blood donation.
Samsung Delivers New Blood Donation Buses to the Korean Red Cross
On the 23rd, Samsung held a handover ceremony at Samsung Digital City in Suwon to deliver four new blood donation buses, produced through donations from executives, to the Korean Red Cross.
The ceremony was attended by Shin Heeyoung, Chairperson of the Korean Red Cross, Baek Hyeryun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Park Hakgyu, President of Samsung Electronics' Management Support Office, as well as about 50 Samsung Electronics executives and related personnel.
The donated blood donation buses were made based on a donation fund of approximately 10 billion KRW, voluntarily contributed by executives of Samsung affiliates from 10% of the special incentives they received in December last year.
Samsung stated that they decided to provide the blood donation buses to support the medical field, which has been facing difficulties such as blood shortages due to a sharp decline in blood donations caused by the spread of COVID-19 during the winter blood shortage period.
The Korean Red Cross will be able to replace its aging blood donation buses through this support. This is expected to improve the supply and demand of blood donations. Blood donation buses are a key means enabling group blood donations, which account for 33% of total blood donations.
At the handover ceremony, the Korean Red Cross awarded an honorary certificate to Pyeon Gyehyun from Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business Unit, who has participated in blood donation over 200 times, and certificates of commendation to 89 employees who donated blood more than four times this year.
Samsung plans to support the production of a total of 40 blood donation buses over the next 10 years, taking this opportunity. Park Hakgyu, President of Samsung Electronics' Management Support Office, said, "We will continue to actively promote blood donation campaigns."

Samsung has been conducting blood donation campaigns involving its affiliates for 26 years since 1996, aiming to establish blood donation as a routine act of service and contribute to resolving difficulties in blood supply.
Until 2019, Samsung Electronics had more than 7,000 employees participating in blood donation annually on average across nationwide workplaces. This year, over 5,200 employees have participated in blood donation as of last month.
Including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung C&T Corporation, and a total of 13 affiliates, more than 11,000 employees have participated in blood donation this year as of last month. The newly donated blood donation buses will be used by four affiliates: Samsung Securities, Cheil Worldwide, Samsung Bioepis, and Samsung Welstory.
Samsung plans to activate employee blood donation campaigns this winter, using the donation of these blood donation buses as an opportunity. Samsung Electronics will provide iron supplements to employees who participate in blood donation and upload photos of the 'First Lifetime Blood Donation Sticker' or 'Blood Donation Bracelet' provided by the Korean Red Cross on the company intranet.
