In particular, President Yoon urged, "I ask all private sector, public enterprises, financial institutions, and government officials to unite with the mindset that they are members of Team Korea working together to promote exports."
That morning, President Yoon presided over the 1st Export Strategy Meeting at the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) in Yangjae-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, saying, "I will directly review the export promotion strategies and issues, which are the core drivers of our economy," and gave these instructions.
The meeting was organized as an occasion for key economic ministry officials and private experts to jointly assess the export situation and establish customized export strategies by region and country. In his opening remarks, President Yoon emphasized, "About ten years ago, during the global financial crisis, we turned it into an opportunity for growth and achieved the remarkable feat of rising to the 7th largest export country in the world," adding, "Ultimately, we overcame that financial crisis head-on through exports."
He also stated, "Exports are the source of today's Korean economy and the foundation of jobs for the people." President Yoon explained, "The government adopts a private-led, market-centered growth policy, but active and proactive government support is necessary to promote exports," and added, "If left to manage on their own, it is really difficult for companies other than the largest conglomerates to export in such an environment."
He also issued special instructions regarding high-tech, technology-intensive industries. President Yoon said, "In the past, we started exports from labor-intensive sectors to build economic growth and social infrastructure, but now we must lead exports in high-tech, technology-intensive industrial sectors."
Following up from yesterday, he also called for cooperation from the National Assembly. President Yoon said, "There can be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties when it comes to issues of people's livelihoods and whether companies live or die," and added, "Political strife must stop at the border. Bipartisan cooperation is expected." He also referred to the order given during the Emergency Economic and Livelihood Meeting last October for 'industrial revitalization across all ministries,' stating, "The Ministry of Environment should not be just a regulatory body but should foster the environmental industry. This is a new growth sector, so it must become a ministry that proactively works to develop industry."
