70s Man Arrested for Attempting to Kill Same-Age Neighbor Amid Long-Standing Conflict
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Yeonggwang Police Station in Jeonnam announced on the 21st that it has arrested A (79) on charges of attempted murder for trying to kill a neighbor with whom he had a long-standing conflict.
A is accused of attempting to kill his same-aged neighbor B by striking him with a blunt weapon in an alley of a village in Yeonggwang-gun around 11 a.m. on the 16th.
On the day of the incident, A happened to encounter B, with whom he usually had bad feelings, in the alley, and after an argument, he pushed and assaulted B. B suffered severe head injuries and was diagnosed with injuries requiring six weeks of treatment.
The police determined that A had the intent to kill based on circumstances such as A making threatening phone calls to B two days before the incident.
A and B had been in conflict for three years, starting from minor quarrels, and A had a prior record of assaulting B and being punished.
As the conflict between the two did not cease and there were concerns about further crimes, the police attempted to separate A from B by measures such as hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital and living with children in another region, while also providing B with a personal safety smartwatch.
The incident occurred while A, having persuaded his children and returned to the village to apologize to B, was involved in the attack.
