[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A man in his 20s who continuously threatened an accomplice who confessed to a traffic accident insurance fraud case has been brought to trial.
On the 19th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Haekyung) announced that they had arrested and indicted Mr. A, a man in his 20s, on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (retaliatory threats, etc.), coercion, and confinement.
Mr. A is accused of threatening the victim for about a year from September last year to last September, demanding that the victim retract their confession. It was also confirmed that he forcibly installed a location tracking app on the victim’s phone to monitor them and coerced the victim to level up in a game for about four hours daily to sell game items.
The prosecution stated that these details were confirmed during the process of summoning and investigating the participants after receiving the traffic accident insurance fraud case.
The prosecution immediately requested personal protection measures for the victim from the police. They also demanded supplementary investigations into the retaliatory crimes, resulting in the suspect’s arrest on the 25th of last month. They have been conducting multifaceted additional investigations, including forensic analysis of the suspect’s phone, seizure of game log records, and witness interviews.
