Lee Jae-myung: "Insulting Sister-in-law Was Also Prearranged"... Female Lawmakers of the Democratic Party Directly Criticize Jang Kyung-tae
Statement on 'Poverty Porn' Remarks... Calls for Jang Kyung-tae's Resignation and Democratic Party Expulsion Participation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Female lawmakers of the People Power Party called for the resignation of Democratic Party lawmaker Jang Kyung-tae, who described First Lady Kim Keon-hee's visit to Hebron Medical Center during President Yoon Seok-yeol's Southeast Asia tour as a "poverty porn photo shoot."
On the 16th, the female lawmakers of the People Power Party issued a statement at the National Assembly, saying, "At a time when the nation's grief over a major accident has not yet subsided, we deeply regret the Democratic Party's behavior of disparaging First Lady Kim's diplomatic activities and inciting good citizens with provocative terms such as 'show window First Lady' and 'poverty porn,' solely aiming for their political gain."
They stated, "How can visiting the home of a child suffering from a congenital heart disease who has not received proper treatment and urging attention and support be compared to a photo shoot? How can the word 'porn' be used out of the blue?" They criticized, "The Democratic Party lawmakers' nonsensical misogynistic remarks and vulgar sexual slurs have destroyed and insulted the hard-earned achievements built through humanitarian medical missions and diplomatic efforts toward friendly countries that our people have carried out in Cambodia for a long time."
They then demanded that lawmaker Jang "immediately resign from the National Assembly," while raising their voices to the Democratic Party to "actively cooperate with the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee in expelling lawmaker Jang from the National Assembly." On this day, the People Power Party plans to submit a disciplinary proposal against lawmaker Jang to the National Assembly Ethics Committee.

When lawmaker Jang explained on a radio broadcast that the term "poverty porn" was "a pre-existing term" after his usage became controversial, People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jung-jae, who participated in the statement announcement that day, retorted, "Even the curse words directed at Lee Jae-myung's sister-in-law by the Democratic Party leader are in the dictionary. There is no word that is not in the dictionary."
