Chilgok Coupang Logistics Center, Freon Gas Leak... No Casualties Reported
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] At around 4:33 PM on the 15th, a report was received about a Freon refrigerant gas leak at the Coupang Logistics Center in Jicheon-myeon, Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, prompting police and fire authorities to respond.
According to the police, approximately 500 liters of Freon refrigerant gas leaked in the basement level 1 machine room of the Coupang Logistics Center that day.
Freon refrigerant gas is non-toxic and slightly flammable, but police and fire authorities blocked access to outsiders and, in preparation for any emergency, worked with the Gumi Chemical Rescue Team experts to search for the leak source and conduct forced ventilation.
It has been confirmed that no casualties occurred due to this leak. The fire department stated that there were no workers inside the machine room at the time of the leak, so it did not lead to any injuries.
Firefighters and logistics center personnel entered the machine room, shut off the leaking valve, and are currently carrying out gas venting operations for the remaining gas in the warehouse.
