'Golf Entertainment Allegations' Lee Young-jin, Constitutional Court Justice, Submits Statement to the Corruption Investigation Office

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] It has been confirmed that Constitutional Court Justice Lee Youngjin submitted a written statement to the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (PCC) denying allegations of receiving money and gifts.
According to the legal community on the 15th, Justice Lee submitted a 10-page A4 written statement to the PCC's Investigation Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Seongyu) yesterday regarding allegations that he received 5 million won in cash and golf apparel.
Justice Lee acknowledged that in October last year, he played golf and was treated to a meal by businessman A and lawyer B, invited by his hometown junior Lee. Mr. A claims that during the meal, when he confided about his divorce lawsuit concerns, Justice Lee mentioned that he knew the chief judge of the family court and would help with the lawsuit. Mr. A also claims that he delivered cash and apparel to Justice Lee through lawyer B.
On the other hand, Justice Lee admitted to the golf and meal but denied any conversation related to the trial or receiving any money or gifts. The civic group Judicial Justice Citizens' Action (Sasehaeng) filed a complaint against Justice Lee for alleged violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes for Mediation and the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
The PCC has launched an investigation and conducted a search and seizure at the golf course in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, identified as the venue for the entertainment. Summons and investigations of attendees, including junior Lee, have also been completed.

The PCC plans to review the investigation details and the written statement to decide whether to summon Justice Lee for questioning. The case is expected to be resolved within this year.
