Yoo Seung-min "Mine Clearance Soldiers' Hazard Pay Only 4,000 Won? It Should Be Increased"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, considered one of the next ruling party leadership candidates, expressed outrage upon hearing that the hazard pay for soldiers involved in landmine removal is only 4,000 won, raising his voice for "the need for overall improvements, including an increase in hazard pay."
On the 15th, Yoo stated through his social network service (SNS), "The daily allowance for soldiers deployed in the dangerous task of landmine removal is only 4,000 won, and I hear complaints from soldiers that even this is not paid on time."
Recently, the Facebook community "Delivering on behalf of the Army Training Center" (hereinafter referred to as Yukdaejeon) sparked controversy as it became public that life hazard allowances related to landmine detection duties were not properly paid.
In response, Yoo said, "We need to comprehensively improve safety measures for soldiers deployed in the dangerous task of landmine removal, provide sufficient education and training, and increase hazard pay," adding, "It is not only about landmine removal. The Ministry of National Defense and the military should inspect all risk factors related to the lives and safety of soldiers in all education, training, and operations, including landmine removal, and prepare improvement measures."
