Professor Im Haegyun of Pukyong National University Selected for Samsung Future Technology Development Project This Year... Research on Acoustic-Based Targeted Cancer Cell Therapy
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Professor Im Hae-kyun (Department of Biomedical Engineering) at Pukyong National University was selected for the Samsung Future Technology Fostering Project in the second half of 2022.
Pukyong National University announced on the 15th that Professor Im's project, "Development of a Targeted Nano Drug Delivery System for Cancer Treatment Based on Acoustic Nano Tweezers," was selected for this project supported by Samsung Electronics.
The Samsung Future Technology Fostering Project is a public research support initiative launched by Samsung Electronics in 2013 with an endowment of 1.5 trillion KRW to nurture and support science and technology that will lead the future. In this year's second half project, 19 research teams nationwide, including Professor Im, were selected to carry out their research tasks.
Following his selection for this project, Professor Im will conduct research on non-invasive methods to effectively deliver drugs to disease sites.
The effectiveness of drugs is proportional to the drug concentration near the disease site, but in the case of intractable diseases such as cancer, it is known to be difficult to raise the concentration sufficiently to kill cancer cells.
Professor Im aims to develop technology that uses sound to capture or restrict the movement of therapeutic drug particles near the disease site, thereby maximizing therapeutic effects.
