Simplified Emergency Text Sending Stage to Establish a Rapid Reporting System
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The government announced that it has discussed plans to open and operate a 'National Safety Proposal' channel within the Safety Report system following the Itaewon tragedy, and to improve the emergency text message dispatch process. The emergency text message system will be simplified, with improvement measures to be prepared and implemented in November.
On the 15th, Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated in a written briefing from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) that during the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Complex Sejong that day, they reviewed support measures for bereaved families and the injured, discussed the opening and operation of the ‘National Safety Proposal’ channel within the Safety Report system, improvements to the emergency text message dispatch process, and the current status of the lost and found center operation.
First, the government decided to open and operate the 'National Safety Proposal' channel within the Safety Report system. Director Kim said, "In response to the Itaewon accident, we will open and operate a ‘National Safety Proposal’ channel within the Safety Report system so that citizens can freely submit their safety-related suggestions and have them reflected in the disaster safety management system reform plan." He added, "We will create a popup window and menu for direct access to the ‘National Safety Proposal’ and promote it through various channels such as AlimTalk notifications and the media to encourage wide public participation."
The emergency text message dispatch process will also be improved within this month. Director Kim stated, "In the event of a disaster or accident, we will simplify the emergency text message dissemination steps to quickly share the situation internally within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and with related agencies, establishing a rapid reporting system." He added, "We will prepare and implement improvement measures in November through consultations with related agencies."
Furthermore, the government announced that it will allow sufficient time to manage lost items collected at the Itaewon tragedy site. The operation of the lost and found center, which stored the collected items, ended on the 13th. Approximately 700 remaining lost items are currently being stored at the Yongsan Police Station archive.
Director Kim explained, "The National Police Agency will provide ample time and guidance to bereaved families and the injured to find their lost items, and will take special care to preserve them without damage."
