Prime Minister Han: "Deep Regret Over Online Media's Disclosure of Victims' List"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo expressed deep regret on the 15th regarding an online media outlet's disclosure of the victim list of the 'Itaewon crowd crush disaster' without obtaining the most basic consent from the bereaved families.
During the opening remarks at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting on the Itaewon incident held at the Government Sejong Complex that day, Prime Minister Han said, "Yesterday, an online media outlet released the list of the deceased."
Prime Minister Han stated, "Among those injured in the Itaewon disaster, ten people are still receiving treatment in hospital," and urged, "The Ministry of Health and Welfare should carefully monitor and support the treatment process to ensure there is no inconvenience at all for the injured."
Regarding the closure of the Itaewon Lost and Found Center on the 13th, Prime Minister Han requested, "Please provide sufficient time and guidance so that bereaved families and injured persons can definitely retrieve their lost items," and added, "Store the lost items carefully to prevent damage, taking advice from experts." Approximately 700 lost items are currently being held by the Yongsan Police Station.

Prime Minister Han emphasized, "Systematic training is necessary for disaster response personnel such as riot police and paramedics," and ordered, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the National Police Agency, the National Fire Agency, and related organizations should review and supplement practical training programs, establish on-site cooperation systems, and devise measures to strengthen integrated response capabilities."
