KOSPI and KOSDAQ Start Higher... Impact of Brainard's Remarks on 'Adjusting Tightening Pace'
Individuals and Institutions 'Buy'... Foreigners 'Sell'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 15th, the KOSPI and KOSDAQ opened higher. This is attributed to the remarks by Federal Reserve (Fed) Vice Chair Lael Brainard the previous day about 'slowing the pace of interest rate hikes.'
At 9:11 a.m. that day, the KOSPI was trading at 2481.98, up 0.30% (7.33 points) from the previous day. The KOSPI opened at 2482.76, up 0.33% (8.11 points).
Individuals and institutions are leading the index with net purchases of 59.1 billion KRW and 43.0 billion KRW, respectively. Meanwhile, foreigners are net sellers with 102.3 billion KRW. However, foreigners are buying 54.4 billion KRW in the futures market.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, only LG Energy Solution is unchanged. Samsung SDI is down 2.50%, Kia down 0.86%, and Hyundai Motor down 0.28%. The rest are all slightly up, with Celltrion (+1.08%) showing a gain of over 1%.
By sector, non-metallic minerals are up 1.28%, pharmaceuticals up 1.23%, textiles and apparel up 1.16%, machinery up 0.79%, and securities up 0.77%.
As of 9:18 a.m., the KOSDAQ is at 733.81, up 0.59% (4.27 points) from the previous day. The KOSDAQ opened at 730.33, up 0.11% (0.79 points).
The KOSDAQ is also being supported by net purchases from individuals and institutions of 26.0 billion KRW and 2.4 billion KRW, respectively. Foreigners are net sellers with 27.8 billion KRW.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, only HLB (-2.43%), Kakao Games (-0.11%), and EcoPro (-0.67%) are declining. Cheonbo leads the gains with a 2.73% rise, followed by EcoPro BM +1.99% and Celltrion Pharm +1.58%.
