Government to Provide 'National Psychological Support' for Itaewon Tragedy... 24-Hour Hotline Operation
Joint Disaster Psychological Support by Relevant Ministries
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 15th, the government announced that it will operate a 24-hour direct hotline for disaster psychological recovery support through joint efforts of related ministries to help citizens who have directly or indirectly experienced the Itaewon tragedy and are suffering from psychological and emotional distress to regain psychological stability.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare has been operating an integrated psychological support team centered on the National Trauma Center and a mental health crisis counseling direct hotline (1577-0199) immediately after the Itaewon accident, providing psychological support to bereaved families, injured persons and their families, witnesses, and the general public. If in-depth care is needed during the psychological counseling process, in-depth counseling is conducted in connection with private experts such as psychiatrists, and necessary mental health services are provided in cooperation with local community basic mental health welfare centers.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family supports psychological and emotional counseling for adolescents experiencing psychological difficulties due to the Itaewon accident through the youth counseling hotline 1388. Also, through the Danuri telephone counseling center (1577-1366), interpretation support is provided in 12 languages for foreigners requiring interpretation in connection with the National Trauma Center.

By calling the Disaster Psychological Recovery Support Center direct hotline (1670-9512), anyone nationwide in 17 cities and provinces can receive psychological counseling 24 hours a day.
