According to Haenam County, the 4th Haenam Minam Festival was held from the 11th under the theme of "Five Senses Satisfaction Gourmet Travel" around Duryunsan Provincial Park.
The festival, held until the 13th, was postponed by a week in consideration of the recent Itaewon tragedy and the social atmosphere of mourning. All large-scale celebratory performances were canceled, and the event focused mainly on experiences and viewing.
In particular, prioritizing visitor safety, the festival was successfully held without a single safety incident, setting a model precedent as a festival leading the way in safety. The county implemented a thorough safety management manual throughout the festival period through close cooperation with related organizations such as police, fire, health authorities, and local volunteer groups, including multiple pre-event safety inspections, establishing a standard for a mature festival culture.
The 2022 Haenam Minam Festival, held over three days, recorded participation of approximately 165,000 people and was noted as a model case of safely completing a festival despite the large number of attendees.
This year’s Haenam Minam Festival strengthened its identity as a food festival, operating the Minam Food Hall where local specialty restaurants showcased seasonal Haenam dishes, a Snack Hall featuring agricultural and marine products from Haenam, the Minam Cooking Class with local food researchers, and a nostalgic grill using Haenam local ingredients.
Additionally, the 515 Kimchi Mixing Event, involving cabbage grown in 515 villages of Haenam with participants from around the world, and the sharing of 2022 servings of Chicken Jangtteokguk made with Haenam rice, seaweed, and chicken, attracted attention as food-making events utilizing representative agricultural and marine products of Haenam.
The festival featured a variety of attractions including the opening ceremony on the 11th, the 2nd Haenam Minam National Cooking Contest, the National Well-being Recreation Contest, and the Haenam County Lifelong Learning Festival, along with abundant agricultural and marine product experience events such as sweet potato digging and abalone tasting.
Alongside the colorful autumn foliage coloring Duryunsan, a chrysanthemum flower festival was held, filling the late autumn atmosphere as visitors who ventured out lined up, concluding the event successfully.
Myung Hyun-kwan, Haenam County Governor, said, “I thank the related organizations and volunteer groups who worked hard for a safe festival, and especially the visitors and residents from across the country who enjoyed the festival in an orderly manner in a calm atmosphere.” He added, “The Haenam Minam Festival serves as an opportunity to heal tired bodies and minds and, by playing a leading role as a safe festival, is expected to become a standard for nationwide festival hosting in the future.”
