Busan New Port Harbor Workers' Housing... 'Portville' 100% Occupancy Completed
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The occupancy of 'Portville,' the dormitory for workers at Busan New Port, has been completed 100%.
Portville was completed in April 2020 by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan Port Authority (BPA) to alleviate the inconveniences of port workers working at terminals and port hinterlands in the New Port, where infrastructure such as transportation and accommodation is poor, and to stabilize employment for resident companies suffering from labor shortages.
It consists of a total of 182 units, each with an exclusive area of 26.5㎡, and includes basic options such as washing machines, air conditioners, furniture, and showers.
Facilities for residents such as a gym and jokgu court are also provided. The rent is 135,000 KRW per month, which is about 10 to 50% cheaper than nearby one-room apartments of similar size.
Portville began full operation in June 2020 with 81 units occupied, but due to COVID-19, the occupancy rate remained at 60 to 70% until last year.
As government quarantine guidelines eased to 'gradual daily recovery,' BPA attracted neighborhood facilities such as convenience stores and cafes to improve resident convenience and strengthened promotion targeting terminal operators and companies in the hinterland to increase occupancy rates.
Port workers who wish to use Portville can apply for a waiting list at the Busan Port Facilities Management Center Support Facilities Team and can move in according to the order of application when vacancies occur.
