Ministry of Culture Holds Public Consultation Meeting on 'Cultural City Promotion Plan'
Reflecting Opinions from Local Governments and Others, Finalized for Release at the End of This Month
On the 9th at 11 a.m., the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a public consultation meeting to establish the 'New Government Cultural City Promotion Plan' at the Small Auditorium of the National Museum of Korea. A cultural city refers to a city that utilizes its unique local cultural resources. According to the 'Regional Culture Promotion Act,' the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism designates these cities. From 2019 to last year, eighteen cultural cities have been designated. Each city carries out projects according to its own 'Cultural City Development Plan.'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will announce the recently prepared 'New Government Cultural City Promotion Plan' and collect opinions on it. Based on this, the plan will be refined and disclosed by the end of this month. The consultation meeting is open to anyone, including local government officials nationwide, representatives of regional cultural organizations, and the general public. Applications must be submitted by the 8th via email to the Cultural City officer at the Regional Culture Promotion Institute.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "Since March, local cultural stakeholders have proposed progressive directions for the new government’s cultural city policy over eight months, and we have earnestly reflected these suggestions." He added, "Through the new government’s cultural city policy, we aim to realize balanced cultural development centered on local communities and ensure that culture becomes a driving force for regional development."
