Damyang-gun Accelerates Construction of Circular Landfill Facility After Passing Ministry of the Interior and Safety Central Investment Review
The Only 'Adequate' Rating in Gwangju Jeonnam, Administrative Power Shines with Thorough Project Preparation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that the circular landfill facility construction project in Damyang-gun, scheduled for completion in 2026, received an 'appropriate' rating in the central investment review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and is expected to accelerate.
The central investment review is the government's final verification process when a local government allocates a budget of 20 billion KRW or more for a single project.
Among the 18 projects applied for in Gwangju and Jeonnam this time, Damyang-gun was the only one to receive an 'appropriate' rating, highlighting the administrative capability that meticulously prepared the project at a time when setbacks were expected in key projects crucial to the region's future.
The Damyang-gun circular landfill facility construction project aims to extend the usage period and ensure stable waste disposal by refurbishing the existing landfill site located in Samman-ri, Damyang-eup, as 93% of the landfill capacity of the existing municipal waste landfill has been filled and the end of its usage period is approaching.
The plan is to refurbish the existing landfill and create a circular landfill facility with a capacity of 120,000㎥, with a total project cost of 24.7 billion KRW, and to construct the landfill to minimize environmental impact on the surrounding area.
